1851 Census Lookup Request
« on: Saturday 04 June 05 21:16 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I was wondering if someone could please help me find Theophilus Jones in Wales, possibly in Swansea, Glamorgan or some other village in Glamorgan. He would be 56 or older. Thank you very much.

Regards,

Lynn

Hello Lyn  :)

Have you found Theophilus on any other census, perhaps with a family member?

Was he a Slag Copperman, living with wife Rachel in 1861 at 4 Pistill Row, Swansea

Hello,

As you see on the date of this posting it was 6 years ago. I have since received reliable information that Theophilus was not that old at that time. Instead I would be happy to receive 1851 census for Theophilus Jones age 30 years in Llandboidy, Llandefeilog with wife Elizabeth and son John. Thank you.

Regards,
Lynn

Hello Lynn

Just trying to get some of the old threads moving again  :D

Theophilus Jones age 30 years in Llandboidy, Llandefeilog with wife Elizabeth and son John.

Do you mean Llanboidy or Llandefeilog Parish?

Morgan,

Thank you very much :D. Do you know how I can try tracking in Wales who his mother and father were? Thanks again.

Hello Lynn

According to "A Topographical Dictionary of Wales" by S. Lewis, Merthyr (Carms) had 295 inhabitants in 1844, so was a fairly small place.

The LDS site has the Christening on 15th August 1819 at Merthyr of Theophilus John, the son of Griffith John and Elizabeth. This is a strong possibility for your Theophilus because the surname John frequently became Jones at this time.

There is also a Christening of Griffith John in the same Parish on 19th November 1774, the son of John Griffith (first name and surname frequently switched in Welsh patronymic system, which causes lots of problems for family historians  ;D )

Kind Regards
Morgan
