Thanks - I have that certificate - never managed to get any further with it and wonder if the deceased father was imaginary. No child with that fathers name in Scotland and no marriage for parents either.

I wonder if the marriage mentioned by Heatherjulie above to Ann York in 1909 was his too as he married at least three times to my knowledge. I hoped this marriage record might show a bit more detail about parents and witnesses.

I would send for the marriage certificate for the marriage mentioned by Heather and see if it gives any further details

David Pendlebury the witness on his marriage married Sarah Ann Smith,so no close connection that I can see there, probably just good friends,

Thanks, trying to avoid buying more certificates. I would really like to find a death for his first wife Mary Jane Morton. Can't find a marriage to his second wife either - he's with her in 1911 although I have her death before his last marriage.

I wondered which site Heather found the marriage to Ann York/Morgan - is it a pay to view site (this might be a cheaper option)

I have the 1911 census and Jessie isn't with my family - I've not heard of her at all.

Hi

Something else to mull over!

www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
MORTON* John and YORK Ann

Looking on a couple of sites

Ann Walvin born 1869 Clay Cross Derbyshire, possibly married Andrew York in 1886 Failsworth, St John the Evangelist (lancsbmd)

1891in Failsworth
Andrew York 27
Annie York 23 born Clay Cross
Florence York 2
John Andrew York4/12
Elizabeth Colton 76 other relative

1901
630 Oldham Road Failsworth
Andrew York 35
Annie York 33
Florence York 12
Doris York 3

I cannot find this family in 1911 but have found the Ann Morton
Haven't found a death for Andrew York yet.

There is a possible marriage for
Florence York and Harold Scott Higgins in 1911 at Prestwich registrar attended.
