Reverend DAVID GRIFFITHS DAVIES

Could I further impose and ask some assistance please in trying to find birth, death and sibling details for the Reverend DAVIES?

DAVID GRIFFITHS DAVIES
1820 Occupation: Cleric
married ANN STOUGHT in Chadlington 28/3/1811 she was Bap in Chadlington on 23/10/1786 and her family details are recorded in Chadlington

Children of Revd. DAVIES as found in Chadlington Baptism
Elizabeth DAVIES Bap 1/2/1812
Charles Stought DAVIES Bap 9/2/1814
Mary Ann DAVIES (no other info found on her)
..........he may have had other children but unable to find them in Chadlington Records

In 1822, he was the Revd at Ascot in Charlbury and found himself in a bit of bother ..he faced the Arches Court of Canterbury where he received a 3 year probation to be of good character - the court listing is available on-line and makes very interesting reading indeed. 

In 1830 he was appointed as Curate of Pyrton in South Oxfordshire

In 1833 he was listed as the Curate of St Nicholas in Chadlington

Unfortunately I have not been able to find any birth or death details for him in Chadlington so maybe he wasn't from there originally - just married a local girl and moved there as a church posting perhaps?

I am assuming - given tradition; his mother or grandmother's maiden name may have been GRIFFITHS, but without his year of birth or his parents makes it hard to trace any specific marriage between a DAVIES and a GRIFFITHS - at least in Chadlington so can anyone please offer any suggestions on how I can trace him down as he just seems to have fallen off my map at least?

I checked the cced clergymens index and came up with this

So given that he went to Jesus collage Oxford I checked the Oxford Alumni index

the most likly one is
David Davies s/o Thomas pleb. of Ruthin Denbighshire,  Jesus College matric 17th May1806 aged 21  B.A. 1810

Checking the Chadlington transcripts (OFHS)  I found a 4th child for this couple who seems to have been missed

Baptism 1819 Adonia d/o David & Ann Davies.

Thank goodness for an unusual firstname - I think I found David, Ann and Adonia in the 1841 census in Oxford (city)

David Davies 55 teacher N
Ann Davies 55 Y
Adonia Davies 20 Y

Sadly there is a death reg for an Adonia in Headington Oxford in 1844

but the occupation of teacher would fit with the information in the article that Dazey found above.

Further to the above - I checked the burial transcripts for Summertown Oxford and found

1844 Apr 21 Adonia Davies aged 26
1844 May 23 Ann Davies aged 60
1845 May 22 David Griffith Davies of St Aldgates Oxford aged 62

I have checked will indexes for Oxfordshire & the PCC and it doesn't look like he left a will

thanks for the link, great find! Was aware of the legal hearing but that adds meat to his sorry saga of why he ended up in court ...will have to follow his ancestry line to see if the 'latent gene' that caused his issues re-appear in his descendants....

You may have to go to the Wales section of this board as that is where Ruthin is, and I think you will need some specialist help hunting for Davis/Davies (by this early it could be spelt either way) in Wales it will be like looking for Jones's   

I was sketching a few of the details of this family out on Anc...try as I find it halps me to see the picture and it looks as though a descendent of Charles Stought Davies has a tree on there,  they don't go any further back than David Griffiths Davies,  but if you are interested in other descendents it might be worth trying to contact them.

I found a discussion between ThommoS and DAZEY999 about the Rev. In 1822 he was up before the Arches Court of Canterbury where he received 3 years probation to be of good character. Dazey had found a link to the Arches Court? which explained what he had done. I cannot find it!!!
As he is my first direct Davies relation that I can trace back, I would love to know what he did as, after that as a family, we are pretty boring. Can anyone please help??
