There is a Vinegar Hill mentioned on page 36 of this document but it is in Loughborough and some time earlier.

If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk and enter the post code LE67 8HE this will take you to the location.

Any of the addresses will do and any of the 1:2500 scale maps will show the layout of the buildings from 1883-1962.

Also on Google Maps, Bing and Streetmap.

http://www.getamap.ordnancesurveyleisure.co.uk/ will give the best inter-active map but is a bit slow. You need to zoom in to the highest level to see the name.

Firsty opportunity to get back to rootschat.  That's the one people, thank you.  I imagine there once would have been at least a farm or small community there, for there to have been a birth,  but I'm happy to know where it is.   Lizzie

I didn't know about that Vinegar Hill, but Worthington, in the Parish of Breedon on the Hill, was a village of 802 inhabitants.  Its township && chapelry comprises also the small hamlet of Griffydam and Newbold Liberty, which have 341 souls.  Source: William White's "History, Gazetteer and Directory of Leicestershire" etc from 1846.  Free to download from Google Books.

Thank you very much for posting this map.

The 1901 census indicates my 1st cousin Sidney Johnson and his family lived in Vinegar Hill

Sidney Johnson   32
Sarah H Johnson   30
Constance E Johnson   10
Ethel H Johnson   8
Benjamin H Johnson   7
John S Johnson   5
Wilfred T Johnson   4
Mary H Johnson   2
Joseph O Johnson   4/12

The 1911 census has them living at Brand Hill which I assume is on the otherside of the lane.
