"Ninepence" O'conner, my great grand father
« on: Sunday 17 February 13 19:35 GMT (UK) »
G'day guys,
I'm trying to track down any information on my great grand father Patrick "ninepence" O'Connor,  unfortunately my grand parents locked away his military records until my parents generation is dead so I can't access them, all I have to go on is that he was awarded the Black and Tan service medal and the emergency medal but some where along the lines the emergency medal was lost so we only have the ribbons that are worn for non ceremonial occasions, the emergency service medal is the one that had two thin white bands in the center. His medals, being told he was in the uprising as well as being told he had a nickname leads me to believe it is him any help on documents and records about him would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat, could you give  an approximate date of birth and place of birth, this might help with finding him.
I expect you have googled, have you seen the witness statement from a P J O Connor also referred to as "ninepence"?

Old old thread, sorry if this is no longer apposite, but I'm just looking at his Bureau of Military History witness statement here - https://www.militaryarchives.ie/collections/online-collections/bureau-of-military-history-1913-1921/reels/bmh/BMH.WS0608.pdf#page=9 Why was he called Ninepence? Here's his Military Pension record too - http://mspcsearch.militaryarchives.ie/detail.aspx
