Fredolin SCHMEIDER
« on: Saturday 23 February 13 03:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to find out information about my gggrandfather Fredolin Schmeider.  Some variations in his spelling I have found are Fridolin, Fridoline, Schmieder, Schneider.
From what I have researched, Fridolin came out on the Fanny Kirchner in Germany in 1858 with his wife Elizabeth.  Although I have not been able to locate passenger records, my ggrandfather Karl Schmeider was born on the ship while in port in Port Jackson.  Apparently the ship was quarantined for small pox, so from what my father has been told, I believe this to be the ship.  I know that he settled in Ipswich Fassifern Peak Mountain area.  I would really love to know where he lived exactly with his family.  Dad and I went to the Fassifern area in January and would love to know where his farm was originally.  We also went to the Ipswich cemmetery to locate his grave, however as it had no headstone and we only knew who he was buried between, we had no luck.
His son Karl was my ggrandfather.  He moved to Winfield (Bundaberg) area early 1900's.  His son Charles was my father's father.  Dad and I would love to know more about Fredolin and hope that someone can help us.
Thank you
Leisa

In 1904 Fredolin Scmeider transferred the property of Peak Crossing Ipswich to Alfred Schmeider.

Thank you.  Is there anyway I can find out where exactly the property was? Alfred was his son.  Fredoline was born 18 March 1828 in Nordweil, Freiburg, Baden, Germany and passed away 17 February 1875 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia.
Thank you again, I appreciate your assistance. You're wonderful.

Hi!
There are a few articles on Trove about Fredolin. He was the landlord of the Peak Mountain Hotel
as reported in the Brisbane Courier 19/8/1865. He and his wife had 5 children.
Hope this helps
Mariona

Hi Leisa,

There doesn't appear to be any surviving passenger list for the arrival of the Fanny Kirchner into NSW.  The Master's report says that there were 203 passengers onboard.

1870 to 1875 QLD Electoral Roll:

SCHMEIDER Fridolin - Freehold - Warwick Road, Bundanba, Ipswich.

Bundanba is now known as Bunbamba:
The Local Authorities Act 1902 abolished divisional boards and created city, town and shire councils. Under this Act, Bundanba Divisional Board was abolished and its functions were transferred to Bundanba Shire Council on 31 Mar 1903. The town Bundanba was later renamed Bundamba.
Bundanba Shire was abolished on 13 Oct 1916 to form part of Ipswich Shire and Ipswich City.

We could help Ipswich library while we are looking for the Schmeider home.

In the Electrol Roles in 1903, 1905 and 1908 (all the ones I looked at) Alfred Schmeider lives at "Hillside" Peak Crossing.

There is a current mine called Hillside Pit just of the Ipswich Boonah road. Could this be a clue?
