hi there

it may just help if you give the name of the soul to whom this medal card is associative, and any brief details you may have...

 :)

Maybe the name of the attachment gives a clue? John Murray! ;D

The marks on the card refer to the original Rolls (and Page number) created by The Army Medal Office.

Yes! He got the British Medal and the Victory Medal, otherwise known as Mutt and Jeff.

The British War Medal, 1914-18
The silver or bronze medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war or entered service overseas between 5th August 1914 and 11th November 1918 inclusive. This was later extended to services in Russia, Siberia and some other areas in 1919 and 1920.

Approximately 6.5 million British War Medals were issued.

The Allied Victory Medal
was awarded for service in any operational theatre between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. It was issued to individuals who received the 1914 and 1914-15 Stars and to most individuals who were issued the British War Medal. The medal was also awarded for service in Russia (1919-1920) and post-war mine clearance in the North Sea (1918-1919).

Approximately 5.7 million victory medals were issued. Interestingly, eligibility for this medal was more restrictive and not everyone who received the British War Medal also received the Victory Medal.

Thanks guys,
....KGarrad I can now get an image of the medals to illustrate family tree.

Good effort fastfusion-but He was born 1887 in WIgtownshire and was a private in the Black Watch.reg no S/40297 I think he joined up in Glasgow. Interesting two John Murrays died on same day, same area. Any ideas where I would get a photo of a uniform please? I have not been able to find a service record for him either , so many J Murrays!!

I assume you have the details from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission?

Over 60% of WW1 records were lost in a bombing raid in WW2 - and some fire-damaged and water-damaged.
