Hoping to find any new information on my relatives husband:
Edward Webster
b 10th June 1880 Knowsley Liverpool
Father Thomas Webster mother Margaret Whittam
Lived in Liverpool them emigrated to Canada/US about 1911
Ted was master mason and built his own house in NY
Lived in Buffalo NY 1920-1939
just located a death notice - 11 July 1948 Alameda California
Unable to locate the obituary in the local newspaper

By death notice, do you mean the entry in the California death index?  If so, that probably means he died in Alameda County, rather than the town of Alameda.

Hi, I should have clarified my post - the details of Ted's death are from Family Search org and are entitled Death Index California 1940-1997, the event place is recorded as Alameda, California, United States. I was hoping to find the original obituary and or other details.

Father Webster Mother Whittom (that's how it was spelt)

Hi Thanks for the links, I've sent an enquiry to the Alameda Library.
 I have now identified the place as Alameda 01 so will now continue to search.
If I wanted to order a copy of his death certificate is there a preferred route to take, avoiding companies who add their own fees and charges?
