Lenton married Allen at Alconbury
« on: Thursday 07 March 13 18:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi,  I've tracked back from 1911 a George Lenton born 1849/50 Hunts over the 1901, 1891, 1881 censuses living in Notts, Derbys to 1871 where he & wife Grace were in Huntingdon where he claims to have been born in Brampton. Back to 1861 in Brampton, George is now born in Stukeley, son of Charles & Mary Ann Lenton. In 1851 George is born 1849 Gt Stukeley and a christening record dated 25 Feb 1849 at Gt Stukeley has his parents as Charles & Mary Lenton.

Charles Lenton born 1817 Alconbury Weston married Mary Chandler in Dec 1841 St Neots RD. On 1841 census these were servants at same farm in Kimbolton. Charles Lenton was christened 19 May 1816 Alconbury Weston, parents John & Elizabeth Lenton. A John Lenton married Elizabeth ALLEN on 8 Apr 1801 in Alconbury Weston.

My interest is in the Elizabeth Allen, she was most likely daughter of John & Elizabeth Allen christened at Alconbury 18 Oct 1776. This ties in nicely with burial of Elizabeth Lenton at Alconbury on 8 Mar 1835 age 59. My question is are her parents the same John & Elizabeth Allen that christened Matthew Allen there on 27 Nov 1759 ?

Thanks in advance for looking and giving this some thought.

John

Hello John

I have John Lenton b c 1762 married Elizabeth Allen b 1776, married 1801 in Alconbury. Their daughter Elizabeth b 7 June 1803 Alconbury. I confirm that Elizabeth Allen was d of John Allen & ELizabeth Smith. I'm descended from John & Elizabeth's Lenton's daughter Eunice. Let me know if you want more info - although I have no Matthew.

Hello Salt, thanks for the reply. You say John & Elizabeth Lenton had daughter Eunice which is your line, do you have her baptism? You name another daughter Elizabeth baptised 1803; do you have other siblings specifically a Charles baptised 19 May 1816; if so I can track him forward to some Lenton decendants currently living in Kettering. Regarding the Eunice name; Matthew Allen who I mentioned, married Bridget Woodley in 1780 & had daughter Eunice 1796 (died 1797) & then another in 1800 in Brampton.

Hello

Re Eunice Lenton: I have an Alconbury baptism of 14 May 1809 for a Line or Lyne, daughter of John & Elizabeth Lenton.  This MAY be Eunice, Line or Lyne is an unusual name & there is a marriage for a Eunice but not a Line/Lyne. Eunice has been variously spelled Una or Unice which could be mistranscribed as Line.  There is a sibling Charles bap Alconbury 19 May 1816. I will reply offline with some more Lentons that I have.  Salt.

Hello Salt;  thanks for the information. Re Line/Lyne (female) baptism on 14/5/1809 at Alconbury; have you seen the original entry in parish records ?  could she be the Una Lenton who married Thomas King of Woolley on 21 Nov 1831. There is a Thomas King married to a Eunice b 1808/9 Alconbury on 1841 - 1871: & when he dies in 1879 she's a widow in 1881/1891 same birth year/place. Una == Eunice is acceptable - but how does that get derived from Line ?

OK let's assume she's the same person, then her brother Charles baptised 19/5/1816 is my interest. He was buried in Brampton on 19/11/1900 age 84. He marries Mary Chandler in 1841; their son George b 1849 marries a Grace b 1846 Clovelly Devon; haven't found that marriage yet. George & Grace had daughter Gertrude b 1885, she had an illegitimate son Reginald Lenton in July 1911 and he married Phyllis Carter in 1940.

Hi John

There is a marriage in West Ham qt 4 1869
 GRACE SMALE
 GEORGE LINTON
so name appears to be indexed wrongly. The birth of a Harry Smale Kenton fits with Grace Smale b Clovelly in the earlier census.

Thanks Tazzie;  the birth index of Harry Smale Lenton at St Neots RD in Dec 1876 ties in nicely with the 1881 census of Alfreton Derbys where George & Grace Lenton are with son Harry S b 1877 Eynesbury, Hunts.

I've been playing around with Eunice/Line and if you read the E for a L and then the rest as a squiggle it could be Line. I've not seen the originals but the research was done locally by a researcher whose work I trust. Interestingly another of my relatives in this branch was transcribed by Ancestry as Eunica May. When I saw the cert her name was Emma Rosa!

Eunice married Thomas King of Woolley in Alconbury 21 Nov 1831. Thomas died 17 Apr 1876 Woolley, and Eunice died 8 Feb 1896 Woolley. I have their son John Lenton King married to Ruth Carter in 1862. I have John Lenton buried 26 Feb 1838, Alconbury, and his wife Elizabeth buried 8 March 1835, Alconbury. Sorry, but I have no further information on the children of John Lenton & Elizabeth Allen.

Hi Salt;  Could the Jonas Lenton who married Ann Rignall on 23/5/1820 be the John Allen Lenton, described at postboy, son of John & Elizabeth, baptised on 24/6/1805. He might be the John Lenton of Weston buried at Alconbury 20/11/1839 aged 33; and it is his daughter Sarah Ann Lenton who married William Brawn on 11/11/1856. Ann Lenton born 1806 Barham is with Sarah Brawn/Brown as widow.mother in 1861 & 1871, she died in 1880. In 1841 & 1851 Sarah b 1829/30 is with mother Ann; her father John having died in 1839.
