You can work this out with Google Maps! ;D

Cwmwysg to Glyn Tarell is about 12 miles.
Cwmwysg to Trecastle is 2.5 miles.

Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Cwmwysg is a hamlet really, rather than a village, and is the area close to the Usk Reservoir - quite remote really, and people who lived there would have come down to Trecastle, no doubt, for shopping and various other needs.  Glyn Tarell is on the south side of what is known as the Old Trecastle Road which goes over the mountain into the Upper Swansea Valley.  Again, there are close links between Glyn Tarell and Trecastle.  In times gone by, a lot of the links between these areas were created because the farmers shared grazing rights on the common land between the villages.  This meant there was a lot of inter-marriage between them which again created strong links between the settlements.

There are still an awful lot of Joneses in Trecastle and the general area.  That and Davies seems to be the most common name there.  Lovely area, I thoroughly enjoyed living in Trecastle and was very sad to leave.
