Many thanks for the link to Romney Marsh Baptisms Index - very useful.

I rather think William must have been Esther's (or Hester) father for her to have received the middle name of Wood at her baptism.  William served on the HMS Culloden, perhaps they hadn't had time to marry, certainly the second child Richard arrived five months after the marriage of William and Sarah.  As a naval officer (no idea of his rank or why he died so young) he could have been at sea more often than he was at home.

I do not have Esther's marriage certificate, they work out rather expensive with our rate of exchange, and Esther was not the link - William was my husband's g-g-g-grandfather and the son Richard was g-g-grandfather.
