Are you sure it's been transcribed correctly?  Never heard of a street in Brecon with a name that includes 'kennel' although of course I could be wrong.
Suffolk: Pearl(e),  Garnham, Southgate, Blo(o)mfield,Grimwood/Grimwade,Josselyn/Gosling
Durham/Yorkshire: Sedgwick/Sidgwick, Shadforth
Ireland: Davis
Norway: Torreson/Torsen/Torrison

If you have picked up the name of the street from the 1881 census then, normally, if you go to to the first page of that section you should find the streets that the particular enumerator was covering.
This would enable you to find nearby streets.

Hi

The nearest that I can find in the ED (13) in 1881 is Canal Bank - the writing is not all that clear  1 Canal Bank might be mistaken for Kanal  :-\

That might be it, Gadget - assuming numbering of Canal Bank was from central Brecon, that would mean No 1 would be in St Mary's Parish, which is the church in the centre of the town.

I checked the ED before I looked, GS - it's definitely  St Marys (or Lower Division)

Nearly right - I checked a couple of pages on and found this on  RG11/5459/43/14  It's in the Canal Bank area

PS -Only one household with that address. It probably was a Kennels as the head of household was  Thomas Jones, a Huntsman.
The addresses go 1-5 Canal Bank; Watton(?) House; Old Turnpike; Kennel; Lime Kilns; Canal Bank.....
