possible siblings
« on: Tuesday 12 March 13 12:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Dawn was kind enough to look up the birth details of:

Richard Clement bapt 3 Nov 1767 in St George Hanover Square, Westminster for me yesterday.

Could I impose further and ask if someone could look for possible siblings for him for me please?

Parents names are Henry & Elizabeth Clement.

Also are there many Clement families there, or are they limited to a couple.

Many thanks,

Linda  :)

Wow, thanks Jo.

Were all these children Clement or Clements? As Richard Clement was without the 's'.
I suspect that this was a variable thing, but I have noticed that both variations occur in the indexes for this parish.

The warrant from London lives, do you think this may be a coroners inquest?

Do you know what this is?

Hi Linda, all the baptisms were as Clements, Mary was the only one spelt Clement. I'm really not sure what the warrant was in regard to but have you had a look on there? London Lives is an amazing site where I've picked up quite a few little tidbits (the pauper records and Bastardy records can be fascinating), their search facility is very easy to use, the have records of Henry into the 1780's, do you know when he died?

Regards, Jo  :)

Hi Jo,

I have been and had a quick look at London Lives. It seems to be a good site.

I think Henry may have died in 1787 as there is a will for a Henry Clement of St. John Berkeley Square, Victualler on the National Archives website.

I'm on a bit of a fishing trip at the moment. My last positively identified ancestor is Richard Clement born 1767. The birth date I got from an old government paper listing pension records for excise men on Google books ( you can get some good leads on there if you're lucky).

It has been difficult to trace Richard as he seemed to have moved about a bit. Although he died in Whitechapel, I think I can place him in the Marylebone area for the early part of his marriage and I have found a possible marriage for him in St George Hanover Square. With a birth of a Richard Clement in exactly the right year in this parish also, it is beginning to look more certain that this is the right family.

Would an occupation in the Excises and that of a licensed victualler go together? or would they be on opposite sides of the fence?  :-\
I have traced Richard's career back to 1799 in the excises when the money ran out for the researcher. He would have been about 32 up to this point. What he did earlier, I don't know.

Still this is all part of the fun.

Maybe I'll take a punt on the will, although the last one I did that with didn't produce anything useful.

Anyway,

Thanks again.
