I just got that gateway error too.

However, on Friday (22 March) at a meeting at QFHS Inc it was announced that the previous day, Qld Reg-General had extended the indexes online for deaths to 1980, births to 1914 and marriages to (I think it was) 1940.

Also, the Qld Government has announced something called Open Data Archive and is supposedly going to put all sorts of 'public records' online.  People have been asked for suggestions, and we have asked for full transcripts of BMD up to 1900.  Personally I think we will see pigs fly before we see that!  Think of all their lost revenue?

I can't see why the Australian Government just doesn't have a centralised bmd system instead of this willy nilly crap coming from each of the states ..... even if it goes up to the 50 year bound there has to be a better way to sort this out.

I am sick of the padantic or pathetic way government are handling our heritage and certificate systems.... maybe this needs to become a formable protest against Canberra for the September elections.

Hi
Oh No leave it the way it is, I can just imagine how much information would be lost if it was indexed again, or go missing off the online index  Qld online a good example.

You have about as much chance of getting a National Federal BMD as you would changing the flag. :o

It is enshrined in our constitution the Sovereignty of the States. That is why each State has a Governor and a Parliament. Guess who wants give those up first. 8) ??? Betcha it's not the pollies. ::)

I agree with Neil!

Even if the Commonwealth wanted to do it, some states wouldn't, anyhow. They all think their system is the best   ::)   ::)   ::)   ::)   ::)

Hi .....in case it helps ...  the 'Ryerson's Index' is on-line ....  it has newspaper death notices  -up until present day -mainly NSW/QLD/VIC.  'Ryerson's will do 'look-up's of any newspaper notice/s - free.

I goggled Open Data Archive and came up wtih this
http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/about-us/corporate/open-data
The State Library of Queensland supports open access to information and ideas as a key enabler for a strong, well-informed and innovative society.

In October 2012, the Queensland government announced an “open data revolution” aiming to release as much public sector information as possible to encourage the development of innovative services and solutions for Queenslanders. etc etc

I'm exploring what is on the site now.
