The first complete census for Ireland is 1901- only small fragments of earlier ones survive. However, extracts from 1841 and 1851 were used for pension claims so some (limited) details may survive. If you could give us more details of what you are looking for we might be able to help.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello and thankyou for your swift reply.  My 3x g/grandfather Robert Campbell was born in Ireland. He married Mary Miles in 1870 in Lanarkshire. Roberts Father was Daniel Campbell and his Mother Mary McCulloch. I don't know where Robert was born or how old he was when he went to Scotland. I was hoping the census could help me pinpoint where he was from. GEN10

If you have a look on the RootsIreland web site http://www.rootsireland.ie/ you will find the baptism of a Robert Campbell in 1850 at the RC parish of AGHADERG in Co Antrim. The father's forename and the mother's surname match, but the mother's forename does not - this may be a transcription error. If you need more details, be aware that it is a pay-to-view site.

Edit - The 1871 census for Scotland shows a Campbell family with all the forenames as previously but Roberts mother's name is shown as Helen. The census location is Brown's Land in the civil parish of Old Monkland, Lanarkshire.

The 1901 census shows another Robert born around 1851 (could this be your man?) but with a wife named Mary and 8 children.
Drogheda, Co Louth - Magee/McGee
Dublin City - Brady, Magee/McGee, McNally, Sheridan, Taylor
Mitchelstown, Co Cork - Hyland, Martin, Russell
Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary - Russell

Hello Hugo, thankyou so much for the information. I just didn't know where to begin looking in the Irish records as I didn't have a clue where they came from. As for the Scottish census for 1871 I came across hundreds of Robert Campbells. What on earth I was doing I don't know. The census makes sense as Old Monklands is where they lived on arrival from Ireland. Thanks again for your help, your a star. GEN10
