Ann Ives, of Church Alley, Amersham, Bucks.
« on: Thursday 04 April 13 14:52 BST (UK) »
I know Church Alley was demolished and redeveloped some time ago.  But is there a history attached to the houses in Church Alley.

I am wondering if they were Alms Houses, or similar.

The reason I ask, Ann Ives(nee.Langston)1821. Little Missenden)), was admitted to Stone Asylum between 1871 & 1881, but back in Amersham, as widow, by 1891.  (Husband, Thomas Hall IVES, was buried, 27 May 1888 at St.Mary's, Amersham).

I cannot find a burial in Amersham for her, but a possible death in Aylesbury in 1899. (Reg dist of Stone).  No burial at Stone, nor Aylesbury, or any other parish in Buckinghamshire, for that matter, up to 1901.

Any ideas folks. ???

Wow, many thanks for that. ;D

I wonder where she was buried though. ???     No IVES burials in 1899 in Bucks.  ???

Oh well, at least you gave me her death, so I'll order the cert.

Thanks again.

The above link mentions a booklet covering Stone Asylum burials 1871 - 1924. Mighty be worth investing £5 40?

http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html

Click on link and enter co-ordinates   477996    212162
When all maps loaded, click on old map "1899 Pre WWII"
When loaded in main window, click on main window to "zoom".

Cannot see a cemetery associated with the hospital but there is a small cemetery just along the road - possibility?

Thanks again. :)

A researcher is going to check for records at the Bucks Archives, and that should throw some more light on Ann IVES.   Apparently, there are some very comprehensive records for Stone Asylum held there. :)

Also, from the map that you showed, it seems very likely she could have been buried in that cemetery.
If so, the burial may be recorded in the records.

Fingers crossed. ;)

Hi

Regarding Church Alley, there's a pic here : http://amershamhistory.info/houses/market-square/

It was "low end" housing and eventually cleared as a slum, developed into a wider road and car parking. There were Almshouses in Amersham but up the other end of the High Street; still there.

Ann Ives was buried @ Stone Lunatic Asylum, 31 Dec 1898.  I have been given the burial record for her, by the researcher, as well as her admittance & discharge records.  She had been admitted/discharged on a few occasions.
Recorded by C.Ridley(Chaplain).
