This may be a long patient search for the Gedge family. Annie Lee Gedge had a Florida issued Social Security Number. Her husband George may not have worked in the USA enough for her to collect Social Security but she may have needed it for other reasons. There is an Annie Lee registered in the Chester-le-Street Registration District, Durham, December Quarter of 1895. This Registration District includes Birtley where both George and Annie lived. Fortunately so far Annie has had no variants (Anne or Ann yet) which has made life easier. The British Columbia Gedge was an interesting possibility but as mentioned he probably is not a possible candidate.

George Gedge died 8 April 1962, Bisbee, Cochise, Arizona.

There is a small newspaper item about him in the Tucson Daily newspaper 1961 which states he was the safety engineer for Phelps Dodge, Bisbee for 25 yrs.

Hi Barryd,
I've just visited the town of Nova Lima where the gold mine of Morro Velho was situated. It is now owned by Anglo Gold Ashanti, where they still have the properties built for the English engineers during George Chalmers 40 year administration.  If you wish for further information I may be able to help you.

I know a reasonable amount of info on most of the Gedge family who went to County Durham, and then to Brazil/Burma/Canada and USA. Have to go out now but will get more info onto RootsChat as soon as I get back. I am always interested in my extended line.
