Wow--interesting.  Unfortunately, as I am in the U.S., I can't visit the archives in Preston.  I'm doing my research online and by ordering docs from various archives and from the LDS.  But I have a contact who visits Preston occasionally and will pass this information on to him.

I believe Richard Goore Balshaw was the son of John Balshaw, brother to the Wm born 1751 and grandson of Wm b. 1713.  John Balshaw may also have been married to a Goore.

I'm not sure how the Wm who named his son Goore in 1842 is connected, though he clearly is.  There are quite a few Goore Balshaws, and quite a few people named Goore Balshaw plus another surname.

Radcliff,

Many thanks for the George Balshaw/Goore Balshaw record.  The Wilkinson family has a close connection to the Goore-Balshaw line, too, so it's interesting to see a Wilkinson as witness.  I will take a further look.  I appreciate all your help!

Radcliff,

Ah ha.  Mystery solved.  I took a look at the 1841 marriage record of William.  The "George" Balshaw listed as William's father is actually Goore Balshaw, b. 1788, in my line of Balshaws.  The 1788 Goore is the one who was, I think, convicted of manslaughter.  I must find out more about that!  Anyway, as you see, these folks liked to christen their children with the same names, generation upon generation.

Many thanks!

Radcliff, thanks sincerely for all your help.

Roger, I do have some records for the Australian Balshaws, who are descended from Goore's son Richard Goore Balshaw and his wife Anne Jane Watkinson.

These folks got around.
