WW1 Military Mounted Police - Rupert Youers
« on: Monday 08 April 13 14:33 BST (UK) »
I have just discovered that my great grandfather, who was a policeman in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire was in the Military mounted police P 14907 and the Buckinghamshire yeomanry 2394 during world war 1. Date of entry is the 29.8.15 and the theatre of war is 2A.

Does anyone have any information about the military mounted police and their role and where they operated and the Buckinghamshire Yeomanry?

Thank you  ;)

Amyou

Hi Amy

I thought 2A was the Balklands.

Googling it reveals:
Theatre of War
2A = Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria or European Turkey

Hope this helps

Sounds like he may have been at Gallipoli

Thanks for your interest. I don't think he was at Gallipoli, I think he came in just after. I read somewhere that the Bucks yeomanry moved to Egypt after Gallipoli. Greek Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria or European Turkey are within close proximity of Egypt, so that is probably right. Is there any way of finding out the battles and movements while they were there?

Thanks again for your help.

Ann
History of Bucks Yeomanry off the Great War Forum gives it that they deployed from Egypt to Gallipoli in Aug 1915 to Dec 1915 as dismounted infantry.
This fits in with his entry to theatre date of 29/8/15
