I read your post regarding John Petts with interest.  My great, great, great grandfather was George Petts who was born in about 1820 in Alderwasley, Derbyshire.  According to his marriage certificate his fathers name was also George Petts but I have been unable so far to find out any further information regarding George Petts senior.

I noticed from the information at the bottom of your post that your Petts ancestors came from Derbyshire to Yorkshire as did mine.  My great, great, great grandfather moved from Derbyshire sometime between 1851 and 1857 firstly to Kirkstall, Leeds and then between 1861 and 1866 to Stanley Nr. Wakefield.

If you would like to compare research on our two Petts lines to see whether there is a connection I would be more than happy to share with you what information I have.

Best Wishes

Hi,

Just to give you a little more information on some of the Petts family:-

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/igi

Chirstened in Belper, you need to search on the above site using Batch Number C046801

William Pett Christened 5.3.1817
George Potts     "         17.10.1819
Daniel  Petts      "         14.5.1821
All the above were born to a George & Mary  - YOU NEED TO CHECK THE ORIGINAL REGISTERS
BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A TRANSCRIPTION PROBLEM.

In the Census you will find all the above listed as Petts.

George Petts = Mary Barker 19th February 1816 Duffield Parish Church, Derbyshire.

This was the nearest church, if living in Belper, to be Married at. Belper was in the Parish of Duffield.  Both were single.

In the Derby Mercury 25th April 1821 Is the Inquest into the death of George Potts, Keeper to
Francis Hurt Esq., of Alderwasley.  If you do not have access to newapaper I can send the article
let me have your e-mail by Private Message.

So if your John was born 1812/13 and was of this family he was probably christened as Barker.
