David,

Thanks for the Dorcas information. That sounds exactly the sort of thing my family would have been involved with.

Re Piper in Hunsdon
Maybe you can now help me. you may have come across a poorhouse in Hunsdon when checking your Medcalfs. it was at a house called Pipers in Drury Lane, renamed Orchards after the closure of the poorhouse. The reason for my interest is that John Carswell's wife was Sarah Piper, and she spent a lot of time visiting Hunsdon, walking the 3 to 4 miles across the fields. Never discount a co-incidence!

Sorry - I haven't come across the house called Pipers in Drury Lane. I had a quick look at HALS Index Names online and the Piper name/place is mentioned over 100 times. Not sure if any of these are related to your Piper family.

Are you looking for anything specific about any of your families? Rootschatters love searching for answers and solving riddles so feel free to post any questions on any topic on any board and we'll all try to help.

Hi Lady Di from what I remember of our meet your manners were immpecable!!

Hi Sandie - good to meet again. It's like an old Wareites meeting again  ;D
One of these days I will return and we'll repeat the fun and frivolity again.
Hope you're keeping well.

Cheers all

Di

I found a couple of pictures of the Independant Chapel in Ware - then and now.
These days the place is used as offices.

This isn't the same place that was called Leaside Chapel

Hi there,

Ive scanned through the book and can't find the surnames mentioned earlier in this thread - the book I mentioned, The History of Ware by Edith M Hunt, dated 1946 does seem to concentrate on the 17th and early 18th century.

David, the photo of what I believe to be the Dead Lane Chapel is the same one that Lady Di has already posted.

Let me know if you have any other people connected with Ware who might have been around in the 17th and early 18th century.
