Donald was the DR whose family drowned in 1881 on the Tararua

Hi lnr

There's much written of course on the "Tararua" 1881 tragedy, and there's a good summary on the life of Dr. CAMPBELL in the following newspaper article which mentions (though not by name), his brother and father.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

"Press" (ChCh) - 2 May 1881 - Wreck of the SS Tararua

... Dr D. CAMPBELL - native of Perthshire, born at Lochearhead ?
Came to NZ some 12 years ago ... went into practice at Lyttelton ... there for two years before going to Christchurch.
His brother resides at Timaru and he also has a father here residing in Southbridge.

>    Have you tried yet looking online for "trees" for all / or any of the CAMPBELL family members you've mentioned ?

Hi again

Yes I can see the advertisement (June 1881) regarding the Estate of Donald CAMPBELL ... and it mentions a Peter CAMPBELL as the administrator.

Archives New Zealand at Christchurch hold the following Probate record :

http://archway.archives.govt.nz

[Maybe it contains some useful family information ?  ]

This is probably the death of the father of Dr. Donald CAMPBELL ?

"Press" (Christchurch) - 29 July 1885 - page 2

CAMPBELL - ... on July, 25th ... at Mornish Farm, Southbridge, Peter CAMPBELL, aged 76 years.
Deeply regretted.

Again there's a probate file held at Archives NZ (Christchurch) ... which may possibly be a better source of family information ??

CAMPBELL - Peter - 1885
