Who Are These People? - COMPLETED, THANK YOU!

While I was at the Library yesterday, I discovered that my grandfather's name comes up as being on four "public" Ancestry trees ... and I have no idea who the owners of the trees are.  If I clicked on their names to bring up said trees (rather than clicking on grandad's name), I couldn't find the connection.  However if I clicked on grandad's name, his very short tree came up ... and one of the trees had my mother and her brother - albeit listed as "private".

I'm curious as to how I could contact the tree owners?  I don't have access to Ancestry, except through the Library?  I tried clicking various places on the pages, but didn't get anywhere.

Not unusual to find strange trees with your family in. If you sign up to Mundia you should be able to find the offending ancestry trees and send and receive messages to and from the owners of them. That is if they deign to reply, even if they do it may not make sense.

Are you able to send messages to the tree holders via the Library access?

If not, perhaps an e-mail to Ancestry quoting the tree holders 'names' saying you would like to contact them with "further info" regarding your grandfather but have only access via the Library.

It may be that the members of your family are connected indirectly to the tree's - possibly from an earlier in-laws line that has been expanded.

Thank you YT and Jean - will be back at the Library in a couple of days, so I'll ask about their access, ... failing that, I'll look at Mundia  :)

My recollection is that you can't view trees on Ancestry "Library Edition" so it might be worth signing up for the 14 day free trial at home to see if there's anything there you might be interested in. Alternatively, if you we're to put the details on here s.k.s. might have a look for you.

My bet would be that one person has identified your grandfather and the other three have copied it. Don't assume that anyone else's tree is correct!

Mundia lets you view the public ancestry trees, free, no time limit. Also you can communicate with each other.

How embarrassment!  Went to Mundia, started to register ... got a popup that said I was already registered.  :-[

Have now set up my account so that I can communicate with the people involved, ... and have already received one reply!  It doesn't clear things up terribly much - he/she is the parent-in-law of a relative (whose exact connection we have yet to clear up).

Thank you, everyone who's offered advice!  Will now call this thread "Completed"  :)
