Obituaries Wandsworth 1981
« on: Sunday 21 April 13 18:25 BST (UK) »
Help needed, again, from all you wonderful Rootschatters!! I am awaiting the arrival of a death certificate which should prove that my Mum's Grandmothers sister(!!!) died in Wandsworth between Jan and March 1981. How do I go about searching for a possible obituary?
 :)

Hi

Wandsworth Archives will hold copies of local newspapers

http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/200062/libraries/293/library_services/9

Unless your mum's grandmother's sister was someone of prominence in the community it is unlikely a local London newspaper would have an obituary. The population of London is just to large, with many people dying on a daily basis. The family may however have had a death notice inserted in the local paper.

Local London newspapers as opposed to national newspapers printed in London are far less likely as yet to be online on the Internet.

And I would think that the main local paper for the area would have been the

South London Press

These papers are not digitised but you can visit their archives
Fleming (Bristol) Fowler/Brain (Battersea/Bristol)    Simpson (Fulham/Clapham)  Harrison (W.London, Fulham, Clapham)  Earl & Butler  (Dublin,New Ross: Ireland)  Humphrey (All over mainly London) Hill (Reigate, Bletchingly, Redhill: Surrey)
Sell (Herts/Essex/W. London)
