Mary Milward born c1813 & Thomas Milward born c1817
« on: Thursday 25 April 13 23:30 BST (UK) »
Hi All

I've come across a bit of a mystery with regards to three Milwards from Radnorshire, can anyone please advise on any of the following (details taken from 1841/51 census records):

Mary Anne Milward, born circa 1813, Radnor, Radnorshire, Wales.
Thomas Milward, born circa 1817, Llanfihangel Nant Melan, Wales.
... Both of the above first appear on the 1841 census along with John Milward (aged 70) and his wife, Sarah (aged 65) ... are Mary Anne and Thomas the children of John & Sarah? (I know ages were 'rounded up' in 1841).

Thomas Milward, born circa 1844, Llanfihangel Nant Melan, Wales.
... Is recorded in the 1851 census as a 'Nephew' of (and living with) the older Thomas (detailed above) - who are the parents of 'young' Thomas?

I'm hoping one of you kind persons will come to my rescue again, many thanks in advance of any help or information.

Kind Regards
Nimchimpsky.

Thomas(1816) and Mary Anne(1812) are the children of John and Sarah.Thomas(1844) is the son of the unwed Mary Anne. There is an apparently an obsolete definition of nephew that encompasses a direct descendant, particularly grandson.

Thomas (c.1844) is recorded correctly as "nephew " in 1851 as the head of the household is Thomas (c.1816) - also living in the household was Mary Ann Milward -described (correctly) as "sister"
1841 census does not give relationships - Thomas is not described as nephew when he was Grandson

There is this baptism on familysearch - unfortunately it does not name any parents

Thomas Milward
baptism 7 April 1844
Llanfihangel Nant melan Radnorshire
