McQuilkin family Rathlin Island
« on: Friday 03 May 13 23:53 BST (UK) »
Have trace my family from Port Glasgow Scotland to Rathlin Island.  I can not get past Alexander McQuilkin, born in Antrim around 1814. I know he married Mary Graham and they had the following children Ann (1835-1884), James (1839), Daniel  (1841-1877), Jane (1847-1882), Alexander (1849).  I know that Ann, Daniel (my line), and Jane went to Scotland. I believe James stayed in Rathlin Island.  Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Cathy

Thank you. I knew what happened to Alexander's other children but wasn't sure about James, just had been told he hadn't left Ireland.
take care,
Cathy

Yes thanks again.  I lost my mother over a year ago and couldn't make myself do this again until yesterday, so to get such a quick  response was great.  Those are the names of my mother's great uncles and cousins in Port Glasgow -  Alexander, Daniel, and Lachlan.  My grandfather use to go to Rathlin Island with his father to visit family, but my mother never went.  Thanks so much.
Take care,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,

I had a My Heritage DNA test done recently and a positive match came up for a woman in Belfast whose mother was a Rathlin McFaul. Anyway, I already had her family tree going back to Alexander McQuilkin and Mary Graham.

She also had matches with another two people who share my lines to Daniel McQuilkin born about 1764. This would seem to indicate that Daniel's son John born 1791 was very probably the father of both your Alexander and my Allan McQuilkin born 1812.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi Cathy.  I guess we're cousins because I have DNA cousin in your line.  2 hear in the states, and living on Rathlin are several others and around Port Glasgow.  All in that line.
I have so many DNA hits in your branch, i just am having troubles finding our Common Ancestor.
I also have a Common Ancestor to the Allan McQuilkin branch that Andy had mentioned. I talk to them, its really neat just to meet cousins on line and get to know the missing family that you never knew about.
I am very new to this, I just started about 3 months ago.  I just found out where my dad came from and his family name.
Let me know if you'd like to put Our heads together, I will show you what I have.  Maybe you may see someone you recognize.
