Albion House in Wandsworth
« on: Monday 06 May 13 19:35 BST (UK) »
In researching the 1851 census for Richard Bell I found him living at Albion House in Wandsworth. In my research on the Internet I found there was in the 1850s a Albion Street and Albion Terrace (later changed to Milton Street & Milton Terrace). Would anyone know whether Albion House was on one of these streets? There were other families listed in the census also with an address of Albion House. This being the case I am curious to know if the census taker just wrote down all residents on either of these streets living in an Albion House. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Census sheets read
Waggon & Horses, Brodie's Building, Wandle Place, Turk's Head Inn, Bell's Cottage, Albion House Establishment, Wood House, Prince's Place, Wandle Terrace, West Side of Garratt Lane

Of these the only one I can pinpoint on "old maps" is Wandle Terrace -
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html

click on link, enter coordinates    525839    174251
when all loaded, click on 1868 map
when loaded click on mainwindow to "zoom".

The Turks Head (No 63) and Waggon and Horses (No 89) were on South Street (can see on map) - now Garratt Lane.

This is the St Ann(e)'s area of Wandsworth - Richard's address is "Albion House, St Ann's.

Closest I can get at the moment

I lived real near there.  I'm from Wandsworth.  Albion House is on Neville Gill Close, SW18 London.
