Hampton Bishop.
« on: Saturday 11 May 13 13:39 BST (UK) »
My question is twofold.

I would like to locate a farm property in which my GGparentsx3 lived, in Hampton Bishop until approx 1871. Evidently the property was on Mordiford Road. Can anyone tell me whether Mordiford Road still has the same name or is it more descriptive of where it leads from and to? What would be the name now, if not Mordiford Road?

I don't know if it is useful but the property name as far as I can elicit was "Green Acre".

Any clues as to how can I go about finding out?

The house is marked on the 1974 2,500 map on the Old Maps website http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

It's on the Hereford to Mordiford Road to the west of the village on the southwest side of the road.  Search for Hampton Bishop on present day maps on the site and centre on Badger's Crossing to the west of the village.   Then select the 1974 map.  When you have found it you can look at the earlier maps where it is unnamed.

From comparing the old map with Google maps it looks like the house was at some point demolished and replaced with Badgers Crossing on a different part of the plot.

Many thanks Kay99.

I have had partial success in finding the property but will give it some more attention shortly. Will post again if I cannot progress through the various maps sequentially enough to find what I'm seeking.

OK I have found the property Kay99. Awesome! Once I got onto the desktop rather than just the iPad I could see it better on the large screen. Your instructions were very precise.

Again much appreciated!

Glad you found it. So many properties are only named on the modern maps

I know the guy who had Badgers Crossing built.

Oh awesome! Does he live in the local area?

We will be visiting Herefordshire in late August and poking around Hampton Bishop. Perhaps we could link up?

Aplogies Earlsdau, I totally forgot about this but have just emailed the owner of Badgers Crossing. I will let you know his response as soon as he replies.
