Anybody know where Auchleach, Stoneykirk would be on a modern day map?

Try looking on the Old Maps site http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html

If you search on Stoneykirk there is a Low Auchleach to the south and to the north side of Ardwell.

I think it must be Low Auchleach, because Auchleach wasn't in Stoneykirk Parish.  Trouble is the place I want is called Auchleach on the 1881 Census.

Low Auchleach appears to be one property/farm, but if you zoom in there is also an Auchleach Cottage on the access track to it, nearer the sea.

If catleugh could  tell us which of his ancestors lived there, then we might be able to identify where they lived  :-\

There are farms  known as Auchleach, East and West   near Kirkcolm this area is   the North Rhins.

Stoneykirk is in the South Rhins where there is another Auchleach  near the village of Ardwell.

If you are looking for farms anywhere in Wigtownshire catsleugh they can be found in the Wigtownshire Pages there is a vast amount of information for people researching in that area  -- have a look through it
amazing what is available.

My great-grandfather (a ploughman), and great-grandmother were living there according to the 1881 census.  They were living there with 6 children, 5 of whom were born in County Down Ireland, where the family originated from, and the youngest was born at Auchleach in August 1879. By April 1886, they had moved to Auchnotteroch, Leswalt, where my grandfather was born.

I've found Low Auchleach - near Ardwell on a modern Ordnance Survey map that I have, but not Auchleach.

The Auchleach cottage you talk about, isn't on my map, but sounds a likely spot.  In the census, they were marked as living at "Cot ho. Auchleach.

THANKS EVERYBODY
I always get some good answers when I come on here.  (Haven't managed to be of help to anybody else yet.  Whenever I try, the questions have already been answered!)
