Hello again Gaye,

     Sterling work Gary!!!

Have finished trawling through the Derby City census returns for 1841 and here's what I've found -

1841

34, Willow rd, St Alkmund, Derby

Thomas Bassano   40   Framework Knitter   born in county - yes
Ann Bassano        40                                                     yes

                                           (HO107/ 199/ 2/ 5)
~~~~~~~~-------
4, Darley Lane, St. Alkmund, Derby
John Bassano     47     Shopkeeper          yes
Esther Bassano  54                                no
                                          (HO107/ 199/ 4/ 25)
~~~~~~~~-------

19, Nottingham Rd, St. Alkmund, Derby

Mark? Bassano       74    Grocer             No
Elizabeth Bassano   70                         yes
Marth Bassano       27    Dressmaker      yes

                                         (HO107/ 199/ 5/ 10)
~~~~~~~~------
Upper Brook St, St. Alkmund, Derby
Francis Bassano     23    Housepainter     yes
Mary Bassano        25                           yes
Harriett Bassano     4                            yes
George Bassano     6m                          yes
                                        (HO107/ 199/ 1/ 11)
~~~~~~~~------

The family George, Jane, Juliah & Thomas from reg district 2143 (above) I have located in St. Werburgh but their surname is "Bassendine", and they are also listed under this surname in 1861.  This leads me to presume that their name has been mis-transcribed on the 1851 name index CD.   :-\

Regards
Sue    :)

Gary and Sue  :-*
absolutely fantastic - I am indebted to you!

Makes my tree so much fuller with this information
and you get more sideline detail from Census (with
relatives visiting etc) - I am so appreciative.

The BASSANO name is so often erroneously transcribed
in the latter Census - I needed to think beyond the square
to find them - variously, Bassane, Bossana, Bassans, Bassens,
hence I liked to read the actual digitals for myself...

 ;D  many many thanks!

I have only just joined this today and may be responding to a very old post by yourself however ..

On the 1841 Derby Census Thomas Bassano  of Willow Road St Alkmund (Derby) is married to Ann whose father was William Pedley who is in the house with them during the census.  His son and Ann's younger brother was Richard Pedley who was one of my Great, Great, Great Grandfather on my mother's side.

I'll do a longer reply although don't have much !

Just checking that you have the very nice digital image of the 1796 marriage document of Ann's prents, William Pedley and Mary Jenny (marriage was 9.12.1796) I think both of them were born around 1775.

Marriage certificate should be online where I found it, but not sure how to attach a document to this post as only joined today.

Thanks

David
