Old photos of Frizington
« on: Thursday 16 May 13 09:31 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can find old photos of Frizington.

My family (Cook's)had connections with many of the pubs in the area!! I have two of the Griffin - one around 1890 and the other 1905 but would like to see old ones of the Parkside and White Bull.

My maternal grandparents ( Crosthwaite's)had a butcher's shop and abattoir on Main Street. Originally they farmed at Birks and Winder.

Both families lived at the Griffin and Steele Bank and various times.
Many thanks

There's a Frizington FaceBook group - perhaps there's something there https://www.facebook.com/groups/10505176312/photos/

I have a photo of my mother at Frizington school where she started in 1923 if it is of interest to you.

I'd never thought of looking for old photos of anywhere my people have lived, let alone Frizington! For some reason, I think I'd assumed it was not likely to have been photographed often. I've got Strongs and Fishers etc in that area, so I think I'll start to look around for some myself, if I find myself in a secondhand shop with Whitehaven area books in it. I'd looked on GoogleEarth, of course, but often it's hard to recreate in your mind what it must have been like.
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

My ancestors lived in Frizington .  My grt.grandfather had a printing business in Main St. His wife was a Cook related to the ones keeping the Griffin, I have one copy of the Griffin with a John Cook standing in front, around 1900? This was sent by E mail. Would love to see more.
