Rive family
« on: Friday 17 May 13 11:12 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Yes i am new to the site, and have literally just, joined. The reason for doing so is because, i am trying to trace my grandfather. I wondered if anyone on here, had heard of Ernest J Rive, born 1911, he was in Merchant navy during ww2. He was born in Guernsey. During ww2, he married my grandmother, then vanished off the face of the earth. I do not have a fortune to spend on tracing him, so if anyone has any information on him, it would be most gratefully received. His story is quite long and interesting but just wanted to know if anyone had advice, on finding his whereabouts during his time in MN,

Regards, Dave

Hello Dave,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

This is the only Ernest Rive I could find on the National Archives site, but his date of birth is incorrect:

3 month old Ernest John Rive can be found at St Sampson's on the 1911 census.

Unfortunately, copyright prevents us from telling any more!

The website to go for Guernsey data is Donkipedia:
http://www.theislandwiki.org/index.php/Family_History_in_Guernsey

Of course, he may have gone to France?
But there won't be any records of his travel

<I wondered if anyone on here, had heard of Ernest J Rive, born 1911, >

Hi Dave,
We have another lady on Guernsey Family History who is also researching the Rive family.  If you would like to join us we may be able to solve the mystery of what happened to Ernest.  We have been adding the information on the family to our GFH tree on Tribalpages.  You may be able to help with the information for Ria who is the one researching the Rive family.
Cheers,
Diane

I strongly suspect it is the same Ernest, and that he is in fact aged 3 years 10 months, rather than 3 months, in the census.
