Hi welcome to Rootschat.

In order for us to help you we need to know a little more - full name of your mother, date of birth, parents' names etc. With a name like Smith the more you can tell us the better.

Do you have your mother's birth certificate as that will give you her mother's maiden name?

This is the only marriage for an Amy Ashton to a Smith

Amy Ashton married Henry Smith
ASHTON, Amy
Registration district: Aston
County: Warwickshire
Year of registration: 1914
Quarter of registration: Apr-May-Jun
Spouse's name Henry Smith
Volume no:  6D Page no:  876

I wonder if he was Henry but known as William?

This is very strange as there is only one birth of a Smith with mother's name Ashton in the correct time period:

Annie Smith
mother's maiden name Ashton
June quarter 1924
Blackburn Lancashire
8E 590

This is really too late if your mother was born in January as the birth should have been registered within 6 weeks.
