This is very strange as there is only one birth of a Smith with mother's name Ashton in the correct time period:

Annie Smith
mother's maiden name Ashton
June quarter 1924
Blackburn Lancashire
8E 590

This is really too late if your mother was born in January as the birth should have been registered within 6 weeks.

Free BMD has a marriage for William Smith and Margaret Ashton in Blackburn 1923

Heywood

Hi ak and welcome to Roots

How certain can you be about her birth date, if you don't have certificate, my mother -in- law lost a year's pension, because she had her birth year wrong, the birth that groom as found looks very promising, I have seen late registration before, so would not discount this record

Did she have any brothers or sisters that might help us narrow the search down - if so can you only post information about those who have died

That looks good - where is that from?  It still doesn't explain why we can't find a marriage for those two or a birth for Anne Smith.

Birth & Death from a family tree that doesnt give Marriage or any info on Amy Ashton only on the smith line. Gave William R Smiths parents names so found the census from that and also Williams parents marriage.
If AK the poster can confirm that Annie her mother was married to Willis,  then it is the correct family.

Hi

I think that ak may have some wires crossed somewhere, this looks like the death in for Ann SMITH

Amy May SMITH
DOB 12 Jan 1923
Oct Qtr 1995
Reg Mansfield Derbyshire
Reg No B13D
Dist 6871B
Entry No 269

Maybe she was known as Ann but registered as Amy May
