North Riding in the County of York – The jurors for our lord and lady the King and Queen upon their oath present that Robert Lynus lately of Skelton on the 16th day of April in the third year of the reign of our lord and lady William and Mary now the King and Queen of England etc., being the Constable for our lord and lady the King and Queen in Skelton aforesaid in the North Riding aforesaid in the county aforesaid, was negligent in the affairs of our lord and lady the King and Queen and was lacking in relation to Skelton aforesaid in the North Riding aforesaid in the county aforesaid, and in carrying out the several precepts and orders of the Justices of the Peace of our lord and lady the King and Queen in the North Riding aforesaid in the county aforesaid, and did perpetrate a crime by giving protection to several felons and transgressors in the North Riding aforesaid in the county aforesaid, by hearing and determining a case that was assigned to him in Skelton, and by neglecting to carry out and complete his duties, against the peace of our lord and lady the now King and Queen, their crown and dignity.

Above the indictment is written - cogn: finis tax[atum?] x s. This suggests he was bound under a recognizance of 10 shillings (a fine payable if he failed to appear in court).
