I can see Fred and Harry M on 1911 as Shackleton.  And mum and stepdad, as Davy

So if Victor was using name Hermann by then, it wasnt the whoe family changing name.

Seems to just be Victor.

To be honest, I think the Shackletons all changed their name to Herman!
Or at least, Victor did.

Need to find them in 1911 to prove my theory, though. ;D

It's too much of a coincidence that Victor Shackleton's father is John, and a Furniture Dealer!?

I was following up from here!

I am grateful for the help
I can't even get my round this roots web very well as yet

I have found a death for a John Herman in 3 to 5 years after Victor says he is born.
This is in Worcester where a Victor Herman is living with a family
As brother in law
I have seen a Victor Herman in 1901 1891 at  13 and 23 with other families in Worcester and Stretford also

Any help gratefully received

Although he says he was born Leeds I am not convinced
He said he was 26 in 1911 census Redcar
And 26 at his marriage in 1912 Neath

He may have been the one in Worcestershire aged 23 in 1911 and maybe added on a couple of years to work in the circus in Leeds

This is as mad as all the Shackletons changing their name
There is a mystery still behind Victor and his father John now

But there are 2 distinct Victor Hermans in 1911 - the 23 yr old Worcs one, and the one you are interested in, the 26 yr old one bn Leeds - aren't there?

The Worcs one can be found in prev censuses as you have seen.

Just a bit more re Victor Shackelton

We noted he married in 1907 in Leeds.
And wondered if a marriage break up prompted him changing name,  starting new life, and marrying again (possibly bigamously)

A bit more circumstantial evidence:

The marriage is wrongly givem the ref 9b 116, and indeed it must be wrong as 3 grooms are listed . A look at the image shows the number to be unclear, but my best guess was 9b 1126

A search with that ref does indeed bring up a mariage with a groom missing-
Jul/Aug/Sep 1907 Leeds Herbert Wood, Maria Alice Freck, and Annie Elizabeth Emsley.

A fiddle around with 1911 shows Annie Elizabeth Shackelton, living with mother Fanny Emsley.

No husband there.

No sign of Victor Shackleton anywhere (as we have found before) but also as we have found before, Victor Herman has suddenly appeared on the scene.

I agree with KGarrad that it is highly likely they are the same person.
