how to find a recent death
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 13:32 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Can anyone advise how I can look-up a recent UK death? Obviously Ancestry only goes up to 2005 and I want to look up between 2012-2013 - is there anyway I can do this?

Thanks!

2012-2013 death registers are not online.  You might want to search the obituaries in the newspaper for the area the death occurred.
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

No national BMD indexes for any date from 2006 are available on-line. The only place you will find such indexes are at

Birmingham Central Library
Bridgend Reference and Information Library
The British Library
City of Westminster Archives Centre
Newcastle City Library
Manchester City Library
Plymouth Central Library
Certain Local Authorities have later indexes on line.

Even then there is a delay of several months before these institutions get their copies ie unlikely any will currently have 2013
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.
