Wonder if this is the original registration?
Mary Buckley, July/Sept.1934 Cork registration district volume 5 page 128 (mother's maiden name Buckley)
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F17D-CYK

Or perhaps the birth was not registered at the time?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi There
My dad passed away this week but I went through a box and discovered he was indeed born at 81 South Mall in Cork in 1931 on his birth certificate.  So definitely this place was used for births.  My aunty who is 85 and still alive I remember once saying it was a nursing home type place so I will call her as soon as I can and I may be able to help you with some more information....cheers

Hi
I spoke to my aunty today - she says she herself as well was born at this address (her year of birth 1929).  She says she can vaguely remember the place - she seems to recall on the front door it had St. Therese written on it?  On her birth certificate it also has place of birth 81 South Mall - she said she is sure that there would have been a midwife there in one of the rooms as she is sure it was also residential.  On her birth certificate is a lady called Mary Grant - who my aunty believes was the midwife - I did some research and found a Mary Grant who was a matron at a hospital in Cork called Lying in Hospital - 25 Nile Street St Patricks Hill Cork.  So that is as much as I know - hope it helps you too. Best wishes.

Funny enough Mary Grant was the witness to my relatives birth too .It must have been a home for unmarried mums ,might be able to find records for the hospital if it still exists

81 south mall was a private nursing home (main door on Crane Lane) It was called Grants Nursing home It closed its doors late 1959/60.ish  I am looking for files but no luck so far  as I was born there in the late 1940s .. South parish church was where the babies were christened.

Thanks for that info at least I know it was a private nursing home .Would that mean the mothers came from well off homes ?And were all the mothers unmarried ?
