Hi,

Thanks for the offer.

I am looking for information on some members of the Quinnell/Quesnell family christened in Kirdford.

Could you check the following baptismal records for any information in addition to parent's names (James and Hannah).

2-8-1818  Elisha
3-17-1822    Charlotte
3-17-1822     Susanna -Twins??
9-21-1823   Martha

Also looking for possible burial record for the Elijah Quinnell born 1815 in Surrey.  Have not been able to nail down any further record of him so I'm wondering if he died young possibly in Kirdford

Jann

Hi Jan, I have been trying to find the parents of Henry Gander born about 1580 for a long time. He married Annis Hall on 5/10/1607 in Hurstpierpoint. Their children were Jane 1607 and Richard 1611 in Hurstpierpoint. Any help would be appreciated. Poppyann

Hi Poppyann

You just missed my going today! I'll note Henry down and check for you, but don't hold out much hope as the Hurstpierpoint registers are on the IGI and there is no sign of a baptism for him. There is a possible in 1583 in Walberton father Richard - he is said to die in 1590 but I will check that out for you.

Jann

Here is what I found

Baptisms

Occupation is Farmer for Elisha, Charlotte and Susanna, labourer for Martha.
Abode is Kirdford except for Martha when it is 'from Plaistow'.
There is no mention of Charlotte and Susanna being twins.

There were also the following who may connect
Edward 13 Mar 1808
Mary 29 Jul 1810
Jane 24 Jan 1813
William 31 Mar 1816
George 26 Mar 1820
All children of Edward and Sarah Quennell, labourer of Kirdford

Marriage
William Quennell to Jane Phillips 3 Sep 1835

Burials
Nothing for Elijah - given they baptise their next child Elisha I wonder if Elijah was buried somewhere between Surrey and Kirdford?

Martha Quennel age 2 months from Plaistow buried Kirdford 30 Sep 1823

I also found
Sarah Quennell age 19 buried Kirdfrd 3 Dec 1819

Hope this is of some help

Hi Jan,

Thanks much - for going the extra mile!  I believe you've  solved my question about whatever happened to  Sarah Quinnell,  James and Hannah's oldest child, born in Surrey in 1800.  It seems likely she is the 19 year old Sarah buried in Kirdford in 1819.

In re: Charlotte/Susanna.  IGI has a christening for a  Charlotte Quinnell -parents James and Hannah- taking place in Lugarshall on 5 Aug. 1821. I know Lugarshall is near Kirdford so I'm wondering if James and Hannah had a 2nd christening for Charlotte in March 1822 in Kirdford but I can't think of why they would have done that.   Any ideas??

Thanks again,

Jann

Hi Jann

Next time I go I'll check the Lurgashall baptism for Charlotte in case there is anything illuminating. It could be a private baptism as she wasn't expected to live, then she was baptised again in Kirdford the next year. The entry should say.

Glad the mystery of Sarah looks as if it's solved, even if Elijah isn't. I'll check for a burial for him in Lurgashall.

Hi Jan, many thanks. It is thought that Henry might have been Gandier and was a Hugenout and came to England. This is just a thought. Poppyann
