Eric Lamb - a family mystery
« on: Sunday 09 June 13 22:23 BST (UK) »
Eric Lamb born 20/05/1920 to Thomas and Alice Elizabeth Lamb (nee Evans) in Lancaster, he did not have a middle name

He was the second oldest of six with a birth record of Vol 8e page 1366.

After a family argument he left home in the late 1930's never to return for 50 years.

We heard that he was living in north London in the 60's, then Eric's older brother made contact in the 1980's and the odd letter was exchanged, and he did return to Morecambe in 1991 to attend the funeral of his older brother.

Eric's siblings were: -
William James Thomas
George Henry
Ivor Frank
Margaret
Denis

Can anyone offer any advice on tracing where he went and what happened, all I have found is vague and possibilities, with nothing I can be sure of.

There is a death in 1994 in Redbridge Essex that may well be him

Eric may well have joined one of the armed forces for WW2 so a search of military records might bear fruit (I don't have access now).

Can I just point out that it's possible that this man is still alive.

Another angle to finding him would be to go in via the Electoral Registers in likely London areas in the 1960s.
Ancestry has these - and I can see some possibles.

The advantage of this is if you find a likely location for him, the Electoral Registers will show his wife (and grown up children of course) and this then might lead you to find a marriage reference, and if you get the certificate you can check it's the right man.

Hope this helps

Done all that, still a lot of ifs and buts.

I think that I'll take a punt and get the death cet.

There is no male in the family that has lived into their 80's hench why I do not think that he is still alive

The birth date I have is the registration entry, and this date of the 18th is as near as anything I have found for him.

He was/is a very frustrating person to gather information about. ???

The birth certificate should give his date of birth and parents -

After a break I am now returning to try to solve this mystery.

I have the death certificate for Eric Lamb and I am correct in the assumption that the death in Redbridge is in fact Uncle Eric as the birth location is recorded as Morecambe in 1920.

On the Death certificate there is the name of his offspring who I shall call XY Lamb.

Now searhing for XY Lamb gives quite a list of the possible Maiden names of their Mother.

Now another mystery........ none of these Maiden names match up with the possible marriages of Eric Lamb and XY Lamb's mother.

Any Suggestions?

The mother may have been married to someone else before she married Eric. Marriage entry would show previous married name while birth entry will show maiden name and that is why you aren't finding a match.
