Searching for Chastock
« on: Monday 10 June 13 21:59 BST (UK) »
My ancestor Susannah Powell is listed in the 1851 Census as living in Howick, Northumberland.  Her birthplace is named as Chastock, Montgomeryshire. I've been unable to locate Chastock and would appreciate any ideas about where it could be or an alternative version of the name.

Northumberland: Robson, Richardson, Murray, Graham, Adam(s), Blyth, Smith, Oliver
Durham: Robe (Robb), Taylor, Alder
Yorkshire: Spence, Cockerell, Lawson Argument
Scotland: Sutherland
Wales: Powell

There was, but only as far as chester, which is still a long way from howick.  :)

I am ok on geography, not so good on searches.

powell is a common name in the welsh marches, if you need help to find Susannah I would think a post on the beginners board giving as much info as you can, her age on the census, her occupation, did she ever marry, things like that, should get a good response
