Ann Eliza Griffiths and the Glass House
« on: Tuesday 11 June 13 18:10 BST (UK) »
This is Ann Eliza Griffiths in 1861

Copyrighted transcription removed.

I have Hannah her eldest daughter's birth certificate and it says she was born in The Glass House, which I have just found out was a large manor house in Gatacre. i think she must have been a servant there. As you can see she had three children out of wedlock.  ::)

I would like to find her in 1851 so help with that would be good (not easy, common name) but also I would like to look up the census for the Glass House in 1851.

Can anyone tell me how to look up a place rather than a person.

I have Ancestry by the way.

Swear this was easier on Find My Past.

What you have posted looks very much like it has been cut and pasted from a subscription site - which is against copyright, so it may well be removed.

It is always best to look at the image, rather than the transcription, anyway.

Here it is
Windmill Bank, wombourn
Ann Eliza Griffiths 29 Married, farm labourer, bn Gatacre Salop
Hannah E 8
Sarah Ann 5
George Henry 3   children also bn Gatacre

Only FindMyPast allows an address search on the 1851 census.  However, their T&C's prohibit publication of that info from their website

Sorry, sure I've done that before and it hasn't been questioned. Yes I always look at the original.

Is anyone able to help with this without breaking copyright rules?

Thank you David, thought I responded yesterday but it doesn’t seem to have worked.

I am sure the birth is correct.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find out who occupied the Glass House in 1851?

When Mary Griffiths was buried in 1846, her abode was given as Glass House near the Syche House.

In 1851, they are next door but 1 to Sytchouse. Unfortunately no house name

When William was buried in 1856, he was also of Glass House.

It seems likeley that they were in Glass House in 1851.

You can find it on this map, just below Sych House Farm - https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/377976/290214/12/101312

You may need to zoom out a few times.

On modern maps, it seems to be Spring Cottage.
