Yes to a Martha born 1865.
 I thought that sometimes in the census they are a year out but I have now found her in an earlier census and it is definitely 1864 so think it can't be her. However I have found another Martha Wilson from the same area  and it is 1865. Just looked and found her on the Ancestry trees and she was born May 1865 and she has a marriage in England.

I have tried to explore all the Hewitson lines but their marriages are very ellusive! That is why I was wondering if they were non conformists.

After Sarah's message I looked back over who I had researched and I am so excited I have now found a link to the Johnsons.
From the female side of the family.

Robert Hewitson married a Sarah Jane Johnson of Wolsingham in 1879. Don't know how I missed that one!!! I researched all his brothers and sisters and missed him - the youngest.

Sarah J Johnson is in the 1871 Census at Wolsingham. Ralph Johnson aged 56 and Mary aged 29 are her parents and guess what -she has a brother 'Tom' aged 5 so that would be about right depending on when he was born and when the census was taken.

She was only about 17/18 when she married but I wonder how come Tom emigrated in 1878 when he was only about 12. I can't find the family on the Passenger lists.

I just want to thank everyone who has been so helpful I really appreciate you efforts. And I am sure my cousin will too once I get all this information organised and sent to him. I just can't believe how much has been accumulated.

I am still wondering who Martha Johnson is as she may have come from that area and be related to them too.

I forgot to ask - does anyone know if Karl and Mary Louisa Lindner had any children?

Judy,  As of 1930, no children shown for Karl & Mary Louise.  They are in their mid-30's

If sighting of them in 1940 is correct --  his occupation had greatly changed --  no children then either

This is the only match to KarL Lindner I found which matches age and wifes name (sort of)  ..  Have not checked for mis-spelling, however 
Maybe a sign of the times that his nationality and occupation changed ??

Per Find A Grave , He died in 1945 and is buried in Wyoming Cemetery --  Mary Louise is not found on Find A Grave

Sandra provided a link to the 1940 census above, so you can see the image through that.  The obituary I mentioned above seems to verify that this is the correct family and he was survived by his widow.

Yes I am sure this is the Mary Louisa I am looking for and her surname was Johnson.

Having found out who her family is I am now wondering how many of the Johnsons came out to the US with her father Tom. Maybe my cousin has relatives out there from other members of the family.

This is the Johnsons in the 1871 Census in England all living & born at Wolsingham Durham
Ralph Johnson Head 56 Quarrier
Mary Johnson Wife 29
Ralph Johnson Son 11
Sarah J Johnson Dau 9 (Robert Hewitsons wife and the cousin connection)
Tom Johnson Son 5  (Mary Louises father)
William Johnson Son 9months

Ralph Snr died later in 1871 and his wife Mary remarries in Q4 1874 to either William Leonard Armstrong or Robert Williamson.

Apart from Sarah Jane, who is married and Tom who we have found in PA then the rest of them seem to disappear in the 1881 census.

Can anyone help with them? Did they all come out with Tom (Thomas Johnson) in 1878.

Is it OK to go on to this or should I do it as a separate post on the Johnsons?

Just looked on Family Search and it looks like Mary Johnson married Robert Williamson on 8th Dec 1874 at Wolsingham Co Durham England.

Can't find any Emmigration records for them.
