Charles Shirley Cadman - deceased 1832
« on: Friday 21 June 13 15:35 BST (UK) »
Seeking B/M/B information from Parish registers in the Chesterfield area. Charles Shirley Cadman died in 1832 and, around the same time, his wife Mary Cadman (nee Hay) also died. Their orphaned son, Charles George Cadman (aged 9 years) is believed to have been baptised in Heath village parish church on 25th December 1832 as arranged by Charles George's grandparents, William and Ann Hay.  The latter couple raised the orphan boy to adulthood. The boy's deceased parents may have earlier resided in Edgware, Middlesex but no-one has been able to find out where and when they died and were buried, which may not necessarily have been in the Chesterfield district.  I am fully aware of the more recent Cadmans of this branch of the family and of their relationship with each other.   Any help regarding Charles Shirley Cadman's marriage and burial details would be very much appreciated in order to discover whom -his- parents were. Thank you.

Hello.... :)

Here is a little bit of your request.

If you have access to the Gale Newspapers you can see the marriage announcement.... I can access them for free with my Library card.

The Derby Mercury - Wednesday, August 27, 1823

MARRIAGE
On Wednesday last, at Mansfield, by the Rev. T.L. Cursham, Mr CHARLES SHIRLEY CADMAN, architect and surveyor, of London, to Miss Mary Hayes, granddaughter of the late Nicholas Bettaney, Gent of Warsop, Nottinghamshire.

From the Nottinghamshire FHS marriage index.... Charles has been indexed as Cudman....  ::)

Marriage - MANSFIELD St Peter and St Paul - 20th Aug 1823
CHARLES SHIRLEY CUDMAN & MARY HAYES

Regards

Sheila.

I see Mary was buried at Heath 13th Feb 1827...... there are a couple of other events relating to the Cadman family that also took place at Heath.

Hi Geoff

Thanks for the PM

I noticed that Charles Shirley Cadman & Mary Hays married by licence.  Do you have a copy?
It does state that Charles was a gentleman and the bondsman was a Joseph Webster (organist) of Mansfield.   A full copy of the licence may hold more clues.

Also have you looked at the original entry in the Mansfield Records.  There should be witnesses to the marriage in 1823.

No luck with the burial I'm afraid.  The Charles that died in Sheffield was unmarried.

Hi again Carol,

Thank you for your further response. I should mention that Sheila (Dizzifish) earlier kindly offered to send me a cutting of Charles Shirley Cadman's marriage announcement - presumably from some newspaper - which I requested from her yesterday by e-mail. She'd said she would gladly forward a copy of it.  Being a novice in documentary searches, I wouldn't know how to gain access to the Mansfield records. Still, a copy of the marriage announcement, when received, will serve the same purpose.

Best regards,
Geoff   "CadmanFamily"

Hello...... :)

Just to say copies of the marriage announcement have been sent to Geoff.

Also a mention re Carol's reply 3#
On the marriage announcement  in 1823 of Charles Shirley Cadman it gives he was Architect and Surveyor but by his sons marriage in 1848 it says his father was "An Officer".... I am wondering if he did die prior to 1832?

Sheila.
