Hi Olie.  I note your original post was some time ago (2013) but I came across it while Google searching for Dixon and Glossop.  In your original search the name "John Dixon" and the address "183 High Street East, Glossop" are highly relevant.  John Dixon was my Grt-x3 Grandfather.  He and at least 2 of his sons (William James and George Henry Dixon) plus my great grandfather Herbert Dixon ran a coal business from the High Street East address and form Glossop Railway Yard.
We may have information to exchange!
Rick

Hi Rick

Good to hear from you! 7 years since the post, time flies!
Right, we must be distantly related then. I have John Dixon 1808-1901 as my 4 grt grandfather.
I have him marrying a Sarah Green and they went on to have quite a lot of children including William and George Henry. My grt x 3 gran was Ann, sister to those 2. She became a Buckley before either divorcing (which I doubt) or becoming a bigamist and marrying a James Hallas. She was the landlady at the George and Dragon in Charleworth if you know it? That’s where my Dixon’s end.
I think from doing research I have them originating from the Leigh area of Manchester. West of Manchester anyway. Do you have the same?
I managed to find John Dixon’s headstone and burial plot up at Glossop Cemetery. I have a picture of it that your welcome to have if you don’t already have it?
Anyway I’ll wait to hear.

Olie

p.s I still haven’t found out what happened to my John Buckley

Hi Olie,
Yes this is making sense.  My info was only that John Dixon died aged 92 - your dates fit with this perfectly.  I didn't have his wife's name (Sarah Green) for which many thanks.  Part of the problem was that my great grandparents moved from Glossop to Peacehaven, Sussex, after a bout of TB which broke the family memory.  My father therefore only got partial information via his grandmother.  I have pieced together a potential family tree of recent information from John Dixon down which adds to definite information I already had.
I'm happy to share this with you.  Is there a way of adding a pdf to this thread?  If so I can't find it!
Rick

Hi Rick,

Yes you can attach a .pdf to your posting, you are looking for a button that says "attach" it is just below the box in which you type in.

Hi Rick

Thanks for the pdf. I haven’t researched any of the siblings of Anne so thanks for this. I’ll save it.
Sarah Green 1811-1881 was born in Skelmanthorpe, Yorkshire. They married 1829.
Are you on ancestry? My tree is public on there and shows the Dixon family. I have got as far as a Henry Dixon which was Johns grt grandfather.
If not I’ll screen shot it from my phone and email you it along with John Dixon’s gravestone. He lived quite long 93 years which 100 years ago would have been quite rare I expect.

Hi Olie,
I don't have Ancestry.  It's on my Christmas list!  A screen shot would be great.
