Family of David STOVE from Deerness, Orkneys
« on: Sunday 23 June 13 19:31 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any details about David STOVE (?middle name Strange) who was born in 1843 and married Jane (or Jean or Ginny)RICH in Deerness, Orkneys on 21 May 1874. They migrated out to either Australia or NZ that same year (we think) but don't know the name of the ship, which port they sailed from, or which port that they sailed into. Also, we know that their first child was either born and died at sea, or died one week after arrival. Any clues for names of this child and burial site? We also do not have a date of death for Jane Stove (nee Rich) in Australia - most likely South Australia.
Can anyone help please?
It would be very much appreciated by the Aussie Stove Clan. :)

Hi

Are you looking into his birth family (parents, ancestry) or just from his marriage to Jane/Jean RICH?

Parents names from online tree at A*y
David STOVE born 1843 to David STOVE & Isabella TAIT
Jane (Jean) Jack RITCH born abt 1845 to Andrew RITCH and Isabella SMITH

Aside from the first child know to have died young, they only had boys?
2nd Child named Andrew 1877, followed by the 3rd, Thomas in 1879?
I would therefore hazard a guess the first-born was a boy named David, filling the first-born son position traditionally reserved for the name of  David's own father.

David (b 1843) died 1911, at Wallaroo Hospital and was of Burunga Gap, SA - his wife Jane pre-deceased him.

Died 30 March 1898 at Willunga
Resident: Hd of Willunga
Registered: Daly SA , Page  48, Vol 251,

Son, Andrew John STOVE was born at Alma, Gilbert, SA on 15 March 1877.

Then, I wonder if this is the first son who died young, a month before Andrew was born:

Australian Death Index:
David STOVE age 1
Died 11 Feb 1877, Hoyles Plains
Father: David STOVE
Registered:  Upper Wakefield, South Australia
Page 149, Vol 79

Gilbert (Hundred of Gilbert)  is not so far from Hoyles Plains.

Ambly,

You are a star! This is the missing child that I am looking for and his death in Hoyles Plains fits perfectly with the details that I do have. Thanks for the other links too, which I shall follow-up to see if we can track Jane Stove's record of death. I'll keep you posted!

Julie :)

Thanks so much for this additional information, which all ties in nicely with the information that we have. We are tracking back on the Ritch side now, as they originally came from Edinburgh (we believe). Julie
