Union Workhouse Withington
« on: Friday 28 June 13 17:04 BST (UK) »
I have just received a death certificate for a John Price who died 10th May 1880

I am looking for my great x 3 grandfather born Pershore c1811 who married in Manchester in 1850 and was a bricklayer.

I cant find him after the 1871 census when he was living in Hulme Manchester

The birth certificate I have received states the John Price was 69 years on 10th May 1880 and was resident of the Union Workhouse Withington as 10th May 1880

His occupation is shown as a Bricklayer which is the same as my John I am looking for.

Will any records exist for the workhouse which may giove me further information???

Thanks

If you have the death certificate, the date of death is on it?

I'm looking for other information held at the workhouse which may give further information about the John price who died there so I can match him to my John price

Checking the Workhouse page for Withington (actually Chorlton!):
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Chorlton/

it says that relatively few records survive.
Those records that do survive are to be found at Greater Manchester County Record Office.
holdings include: Lists of emigrant children sent to Canada and other countries (1889-1947, indexed); Ledgers (1837-1915) with gaps; etc.
