Gammie
« on: Wednesday 03 July 13 12:29 BST (UK) »
I am currently tracing my family tree through the Gammie surname.

The last definite entry I've found is William Gammie (b. ~1815, d. 1881). He was born in Rayne, Aberdeenshire and died in Aberdeen City. His wife was Helen (m.s. Gray).

William's death certificate states that his father and mother are James Gammie (a Farmer) and Charlotte (m.s. Barron).

I know this is probably a long shot but is there anyone out there with any further information on my line of Gammie's?

A quick look at Family Search shows James Gammie and his wife, Charlotte Barron, having a daughter, Charlotte, baptised 29-9-1814 and a daughter, Isobel baptised 15-6-1818, both in Rayne.

Again, a quick look at FreeCEN shows the following:

1841 - at Meikle Wartle, Rayne: James Gammie, tailor, aged "60", his wife, Charlotte, aged "60", and a daughter, Charlotte, aged "25". Ages in 1841 were rounded down.

1851 shows a William Gammie (probably your ancestor), mason's labourer, aged 40, born Rayne, at 1 Hardweird, Aberdeen (now called the Hardgate), with a daughter called Charlotte.

1851 shows a John Gammie (probably your ancestor's brother), aged 43, at Moss-side, Rayne, born Rayne, with a daughter called Charlotte.

I picked these out as Charlotte was a fairly uncommon name in Scotland.

That's great. Thank you guys.

This has confirmed that William's father is James Gammie (b. 1780) who was married to Charlotte Barron. Now comes the challenge of finding out more about them.
