Want a challenge? - George Jasper 1841 Census
« on: Thursday 04 July 13 05:14 BST (UK) »
Hi Listers - can anybody find George Jasper in the 1841 Census.
Have him in the 1851 Census, b 1776 abt 75 with son-in-law George Pullen and daughter Harriet.
I can not locate him at all in the 1841 census.
Any suggestions, have tried Jasper (Jesper etc etc), george, geo etc.
Am running out of options.
Cheers

Hi:

There is a George Jasper, 1776, age 65, Farmer, in Woodbridge Union district of Suffolk County:

1841 HO107, piece 1020, folio 3, page 1

He is on Rouse's Farm, Burgh along with:

Daniel Richer, 75, 1766, Suffolk
Elizth Richer, 70, 1771, Suffolk
Louisa Page, 14, 1827, Suffolk
Eizabeth Wythe, 9, 1832, Suffolk
Samuel Richer, 35, Suffolk

Thought I'd pass it along just in case any of those names were familiar to you.

As he was a fisherman in 1851 he was possibly at sea at the time of the 1841 census

You have not really given enough info, like place of birth, wife's name, daughter's age and which 1851 census you found him on.  So for at the moment it looks as though you are confusing Sussex with Suffolk and therefore searching on the wrong Rootschatter board.     Roy G

1841 Census George Pullen age 17, Wheelwright, is in the Pollard Household in Brighthelmstone, Sussex.
Also there is a SARAH Jasper age 20, Female Servant.
Probable Sister of Harriet Christened 16 April 1820 to George/Sarah
HO107/1122/12/Brighthelmstone

1841 Harriett Jasper born c 1827 is in Brighthelmstone with another Pollard Family
HO107/1122/12/Brighthelmstone

Looks to me that George may be away at Sea.

I noticed a Tree has the wrong Parents for George Pullen.
His Father was WILLIAM, Marriage is on F/S.Org24 Dec 1848

Trish :)

With the above info it is now easier to identify George Jasper, son of William & Susanna, baptised Brighton 1777.

George the fisherman married Sarah, but if it was Sarah Hughes in 1805, it is unusual to wait 8 years to start a family.
These children of theirs were all baptised Brighton,
Elizabeth 1813, Jane 1815, Sarah 1820, Mary 1822, George 1824, Harriet 1827, born 'Great' Russell Street or Court.
Info IGI and SFHG Baptism database.
Two children, Harriett 1827 and Sarah 1820 have already been identified on the censuses by other Rootschatters.
Harriet married George Pullen in Brighton in 1848.

George Jasper's wife Sarah may have died post Harriet's birth but pre census,
or was she the 66 year old Sarah Jasper (b 1783) who died at High Street Court, Brighton, in 1849?
As 14 year old Harriet Jasper was being cared for by the Pollards on the 1841 Brighthelmstone census, it suggests another family tie with the Pollards.  The link looks to be Richard Pollard married to a Jane Jasper (Brighton 1833), who was probably Harriet's elder sister Jane baptised 1815.

What a fantastic bunch you guys are - can't believe I couldn't find them.
Thanks for the very quick response on this one.
Thanks Sami - but not mine - thanks for looking.
Kay99 - didn't think about "away at sea"
Thanks AVM and trish - for all of your help and subsequent details.
Sorry Roy about the lack of info - should have thought about it a little more before I posted - but thanks for the followup.

Cheers
