  I think Evelyn's death is this one

 Evelyn Maud Stevens b @ 1898 died 1995 Windsor & Maidenhead reg
 There is a death in 1965 with probate showing but the dopb is for 1865 so can rule that out.

1950 . Probate to Evelyn Maud Stevens wife of George Clement Stevens.

A-ha - how wonderful! This does seem to confirm that the Woods are the family in the photographs. Wow, this thread has really blossomed in my absence. Thanks to all of you for your detective work, it looks like you've found the right family. It's very sad since it seems like all of the lines died out - in an ideal world I would have liked to track down someone with a connection to the family so I could make them aware of the photos existence.

The 1995 death seems likely to be the right Evelyn Wood - the people who sold me the photos were convinced she had died a spinster but it's very possible they were misinformed/possibly getting her confused with Nora.

Just one more thing - I was somewhat puzzled yesterday as the adult woman in the 'actress' photos seemed to resemble the dark haired girl (Nora) far more than the blonde girl (Evelyn, the supposed actress). I wondered if there had perhaps been a mix-up, with Nora being the actual 'actress' in the photos. When I did this comparison, I realized that was wrong - the blonde girl is an exact match (facially speaking) for the woman in the grown-up portraits.
